South of the Fraser: transit-friendly things to do this Thanksgiving weekend

Pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes and gravy – ‘tis the season to be stuffed! Thanksgiving is this weekend, and we thought we’d help you decide what to do and where to go. A lot of the feedback you give is about things to do outside of Vancouver – Surrey, Delta, Langley, and Richmond.

So, this time, The Buzzer blog is pumped to help you carve out some fun South of the Fraser this weekend! Orange you pumped?!

Monday, Oct 8 is Thanksgiving Day! Bus, SkyTrain & SeaBus services will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule. Holiday fares will be in effect, you only need a one-zone fare to travel across all zones! West Coast Express will not operate. http://ow.ly/BPrj30lAPOO

Potter’s House of Horrors

Location: 12530, 72nd Avenue Surrey Transit: Buses 301, 319

Lovers of all things horror – this is your dream come true! This ultra-spooky haunted house with many shocking surprises awaits you. Not for the faint-hearted. They also have a mini haunted houses for children 12 and under.

Cranberry Festival

Location: 23433 Mavis Avenue, Fort Langley Natural Historic Site Transit: 562

This family-friendly festival celebrates all things cranberries with the aim to teach the history of cranberries by Indigenous people. Take part in farm-related games, and walk around the marketplace to sample produce, and buy gorgeous jewellery.

Salamander Searchers

Location: Belcarra Regional Park Transit: Bus 182

Kids who love nature will appreciate this slithery search that aims to teach kids about amphibians – especially those that hide by day and hunt at night.

Thanksgiving Tea

Location: London Heritage Farm, 6511 Dyke Road, Richmond Transit: Bus 402

Tea lovers can head to this thanksgiving-themed team in a country-style tea room where you can enjoy your cuppa with homemade scones, and other baked treats.



Port Moody Oktoberfest

Location: 100 Newport Drive, Port Moody Transit: Millennium Line, Buses 160, 182

The Port Moody Oktoberfest claims to bring the authentic Bavarian Oktoberfest to Port Moody. Enjoy Schnitzel, bratwurst, pretzels and hurricane potatoes, and a number of family-friendly activities.

Richmond Night Market

Location: 8351 River Road, Richmond Transit: Canada Line, Bus 480

This Monday is the last day of this brilliant night market, so go check it out before it’s too late! Taste international food – more than 500 food choices, live music, dance, martial arts, and so much more. Did you know Vancouver actor Seth Rogen is a fan?
