Transit-friendly Christmas activities in Metro Vancouver this weekend


A round of Santa-plause because The Buzzer blog is back with some cool things to do this weekend – all of which are transit-friendly! We take you from Vancouver to Surrey, from New West to Langley – because, Xmas has us feeling extra santa-mental!

Ride the Reindeer Bus

Location: Various Transit: Lo and behold, the reindeer bus!

The Reindeer Bus is back for another year to spread holiday cheer! See it? Snap it and share it with the hashtag #ReindeerBus. The exterior of a conventional 40-foot bus now riding about town with Christmas lights, giant antlers, and a big red nose! The bus will operate on different routes and is decorated in-house at the Vancouver Transit Centre.

Disney on Ice

Location: Pacific National Exhibition, 2901, East Hastings, Vancouver Transit: Buses 16, 27, 28, 95 B-Line

Catch your favourite Disney characters with shows such as Frozen, Dream Big, and Reach for the Stars, as five daring heroines present Dare to Dream. Watch Moana, Elsa & Anna, Rapunzel and more shape their destiny.

Lights at Lafarge

Location: Town Centre Park, 1299 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam Transit: Millennium Line

Brought to you by the City of Coquitlam, Lights at Lafarge Lake is one of the largest free light displays in Metro Vancouver, and features more than 100,000 twinkling lights. Catch the Millennium Line to Lafarge Lake-Douglas Station!

Christmas in Leigh Square

Location: Leigh Square, 2253 Leigh Square, Port Coquitlam Transit: Bus 169

What best describes the festive spirit? Good food, friends and family, and holiday characters! That’s right! Be prepared to be amazed at this Christmas fair with a variety of vendors, food trucks, kids’ crafts and more!


Black Friday Weekend at Metropolis at Metrotown

Location:  Metropolis at Metrotown, 4700 Kingsway, Burnaby Transit: Expo Line, Buses 19, 110, 119, 49, 430, 116, 130, 144, 146, 147

Kickstart your holiday shopping, folks! Re-do your winter wardrobe with sales that start at 8 am on Friday and extended mall hours until 10 pm.


Surrey Tree Lighting Festival and Holiday Market

Location: Surrey Civic Plaza and Atrium – 13450 104th Avenue, Surrey Transit: Expo Line, Buses 335, 371, 373

The City of Surrey is hosting its annual Tree Lighting Festival and Holiday Market with a 60-foot-tall Christmas Tree. You can enjoy mouthwatering foods at the various food trucks, participate in ice-carving demos, and more! Have kids? Don’t worry, because there are loads of activities for them too!


Santa at Capilano Mall

Location: 935 Marine Drive, North Vancouver Transit: Buses 240, 241

Yule be sorry if you miss this Christmas event! There’s a “Live from the North Pole” concert and gingerbread decorating workshop with good ol’ Mrs Claus that you don’t wanna miss! Have your elf a merry little Christmas, we say! Take the SeaBus to Lonsdale Quay and transfer at the bus loop.

Disney’s The Little Mermaid

Location: Massey Theatre, 735 Eighth Avenue, New Westminster Transit: Buses 123, 128, 155, 106, 101

A musical play by the Children’s Theatre of Richmond Association, proceeds from which will be donated to the BC Children’s Hospital. Directed by Emma Swords, and choreography by Harry Zhao.

Glow Christmas

Location: Milner Village Garden Centre,  6690 216 St, Langley Transit: Bus 562

This indoor attraction in Langley features a light maze, light tunnel, live entertainment and market. You can hop onboard the Glen the glow-comotive, visit the magical castle playground, whisper your wish list to Santa, enjoy delicious treats at the food trucks, and glow in the festive spirit!
